---++ IEEE P1076.1 Working Group Telco Meeting Minutes - January 12, 2010 8am PDT (17:00 GMT) Status: approved by WG on February 9, 2010. %TOC% ---+++ Attendees * Ernst Christen (chair, meeting convener) * Joachim Haase * John Shields (joined at 10am PDT) * David Smith * Thuy Tran * Alain Vachoux (note taker) ---+++ Agenda * Call to order * Approval of agenda * Administrative issues * Minutes of last meeting * Revision of IEEE Std 1076.1.1: Status * Officer elections: Status * User survey * Status of the reflector * Review of IEEE patent policy * Overview of VPI-AMS for Verilog-AMS * Next meetings * AOB * Adjourn ---+++ 1. Call to order on January 12, 2010 at 8:04 PDT Ernst welcomed the participants and started presenting the [[%ATTACHURL%/100112_mtg_slides.pdf][meeting slides]]. ---+++ 2. Approval of Agenda Agenda unanimously approved. ---+++ 3. Administrative Issues * Minutes of December 15, 2009
Motion from David. Joachim seconded. Minutes unanimously approved without modifications. * P1076.1.1 revision ballot
Peter Ashenden will deliver a first draft of the revised P1076.1.1 LRM by January 22. Peter offered to edit the LRM free ot charge as only minor modifications are required. The draft will be put in a private section of the web site. Ernst will then start the formal IEEE process. * Officer elections
All previous officers confirmed. Ernst will ask John Shields (Return Officer) for the voter list. * User survey
Ernst will post a presentation email with voting questions on priorities (open vote, no WG voting membership required). The Projects page on the web site has been updated accordingly.
Will be launched when reflector problems are fixed. * Status of the email reflector
1076.1 email reflector is no more working. David mentioned that eda.org administrators are still trying to identify where the problem is. It seems that this has been caused by the change of DASC chair. A move of the complete eda.org site to a new Linux machine has been planned for the following week-end, which will be the opportunity to fix the issue. * Review of IEEE patent policy
Ernst offered a review of the IEEE patent policy. Participants waived the review. ---+++ 4. Overview of VPI-AMS for Verilog-AMS Ernst noticed that he does not know the current status of the work. The effort seems to be abandonned. However, the overview should be useful for the P1076.1 working group. Another previous effort has been done on a VPI-AMS for VHDL-AMS with Martin Vlach as the chair (a few meetings in 2002 and 2003). Martin started to develop UML diagrams of a VHDL-AMS API. Ernst suggested to contact Martin to get more information. [slide 7]
David mentioned some ambiguity between the vpi_get_analog_time and vpi_get_real functions. Both seem to get simulation time values. He also asked what is the intent of the vpi_sim_control function.
Ernst replied that he does not really know. He is just reporting.
David asked if there are requirements for such an API.
Ernst said that they have been defined a long time ago and that they should be revisited in the context of VHDL-AMS. [slide 8]
David wondered when during a simulation the VPI functions can be called.
David suggested to refer to the !SystemVerilog effort, maybe to the AMS subgroup. [slide 9]
Ernst mentioned the existence of two examples of use of foreign routines. One is a simple register using partial derivatives. The other is a sampler without partial derivatives.
Alain suggested that this could also be used for defining new behaviors not supported in the simulator. It will be the task of the VPI-AMS for VHDL-AMS project champion to define a proper use model and a set of requirements. ---+++ 5. Next Meetings The next meeting will be a telco on February 9, 2010 at 8am PST. Details will follow. The main topics will be first results of the user survey and the P1076.1.1 IEEE reaffirmation process. Joachim has proposed to held the March 9 meeting at the DATE conference in Dresden. Joachim will investigate the room facilities and meeting costs. About 5 participants are expected, maybe more depending on the results of the user survey. Ernst won't be able to attend in person. He will ask John Willis if he could chair the meeting. ---+++ 6. AOB None. ---+++ 7. Adjourn Ernst adjourned the meeting at 10:05 PDT.
