---+++ Overview

The _e_ Functional Verification Language Working Group (<em>e</em>WG) was formed to define a standard for the _e_ language. The <em>e</em>WG is sponsored by the IEEE Design Automation Standards Committee (DASC), a body of the IEEE Computer Society focused on electronic design automation standards. All standards-related activity in the IEEE is governed by the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE/SA).

The DASC has formed the Verification Language Study Group (VLSG) to scope and direct the standardization process. This effort resulted in a Project Authorization Request (PAR), that was approved by the DASC board on April 10, 2003 and by the IEEE Standards Board on June 12, 2003. The 1647-2006 standard passed a peer review ballot on October 28, 2005, passed RevCom and got approved by the standards board on March 30, 2006. The standard was published in September 2006.

A revision PAR was filed and approved by NesCom July 31st, 2006.

The following is the scope of the <em>e</em>WG as extracted from the PAR:

The scope of this standard is the definition of the _e_ functional verification language. This standard aims to serve as an authoritative source for the definition of:

_(a) syntax and semantics of e language constructs <br />(b) the e language interaction with standard simulation languages<br />(c) e language libraries_

This revision extends the standard to cover novel verification-related features

The <em>e</em>WG operation is governed by the policies and procedures of the sponsor organizations. In addition, the <em>e</em>WG have decided to adopt a set of Bylaws.

---+++ Call for Participation

Individuals interested in functional verification languages are hereby invited to take part in the 1647 working group effort. This effort is aimed at standardizing the _e_ functional verification language. The _e_ language has been evolving since it's introduction in 1996, and is used today by a large community of industrial and academic users.

To learn more about the goal and scope of the working group, please consult the [[http://standards.ieee.org/board/nes/projects/1647.pdf][Project Authorization]] granted by the IEEE Standards Association.

The participation in the working group is open to all. There are three levels of participation: voting member, member and observer.

   * *Voting Member* - A voting member of the working group must complete each of the following steps:
      * Complete the <span style="font-family: times;"> _e_ </span>Language Working Group Registration.
      * Meet the working group attendance requirements specified in the [[http://www.eda.org/twiki/bin/view.cgi/P1647/ByLaws][bylaws]].
      * Additionally (and optionally), should the voting member wish to vote in the final IEEE-SA approval ballot: Join the [[http://standards.ieee.org/][IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA)]] or pay the per ballot fee to vote on the draft standards created by this working group (see [[http://standards.ieee.org/develop/overview.html][here for further information]]).

   * *Member* - A non-voting member of the working group must simply complete the <span style="font-family: times;"> _e_ </span>language working group registration. A non-voting member cannot vote in any working group business, nor on any draft standards.

   * *Observer* - Observers are free to attend calls and participate in email discussion. However they cannot vote in any working group business, nor on any draft standards. Participants wishing to contribute to the discussion should consider enrolling as members.

IEEE membership is not required to participate as an observer, member or voting member of this working group.

---++++ _e_ Language Working Group Registration

A roster of working group members has to be provided to the IEEE administration, including all the following data:
   * First name, Last name
   * Company
   * Address
   * Phone
   * E-mail
   * IEEE Membership number (if you have one)
   * IEEE-SA Member yes/no?
   * DASC Member yes/no?

By submitting this information to the [[mailto:Darren.Galpin@infineon.com][Chair of the working group]]:
   * You request to be added as a *member* of the eWG
   * You will be included in the roster provided to the IEEE administrator
   * Your e-mail address will be added to the e-mail reflector
   * You may be eligible to vote, depending on your participation and DASC membership (please review the [[http://www.eda.org/twiki/bin/view.cgi/P1647/ByLaws][bylaws]] section about voting procedures).

If you wish to join the working group as an observer, you should only send in your name and e-mail address. By submitting an incomplete entry, containing a name and an e-mail address:
   * You request to be added as an *observer*
   * Your e-mail address will be added to the e-mail reflector
   * You will not be added to the IEEE roster and will not be able to vote

Privacy Notice: Only your name, IEEE/SA and DASC standing will be available on this web site. All other information provided shall be kept in strict confidentiality and will be disclosed only to IEEE administration staff and <em>e</em>WG officers.
