Hi All,
It is great news that Accellera approved the VHDL working
group. This development is something that I fully support.
I say this in particular because I have previously
voiced concern and voted against entity organization.

I also want to share with you the great news that the
individual based VHDL-200X-FT work has been going well
and is reaching its completion point. Only issues FT32
and FT7 are not done. The remaining issues are ready
for hand off to an LRM writer. Due to the intensive,
time consuming nature of LRM editing, it needs to be
done as work for hire.

While we may be able to debate whether individual or
entity based working groups are an effective way to
get "market relevant" work done, at the end of the
day, we still need funding.

While I was running the technical activities of the
VHDL-200X Fast Track working group, Steve was seeking
funding. Outside of Accellera, there is neither funding
nor groups with reasonable funding models available to
us. Neither IEEE, nor IEEE SA fund standards
efforts. So the options are:
   1) Build a good working relationship with Accellera
and have them help us with our funding needs
   2) Found a new funding organization.

Our focus needs to be to provide some great technical
revisions to VHDL that are relevant to the user community.
With this said, now is not the right time to
consider option 2. As long as Accellera demonstrates
that it will actively support enhancing VHDL, it could
prove to be our best option for a balance between
funding and getting relevant work done.

I would encourage all interested parties to participate
in the Accellera VHDL effort as I would expect little to
no changes to the Accellera document once it is donated
back to IEEE - similar to how SystemVerilog worked.
The time to comment on and fix any VHDL features
introduced by Accellera is when the Accellera WG ballots
on them and not later.

There is no better way to impact the process and the
results than by participating. As a result, SynthWorks
is joining Accellera.

Best Regards,
Jim
