Thanks. That is a possibility as well.

However, I wasn't proposing to define a new format. What I meant was to use
an existing format (GHW, as defined by the GHDL project, and used by gEDA's
GTKWave as well), and standardize it, or make amendments to it for
standardization.

The reason why the GHDL project defined a new format was because VCD can't
recognize some VHDL datatypes.

I'm not sure what they did for the GHW format - it could very well also be
an extension to the VCD/EVCD format.
Anyway, we'll have to look into this in more detail.
