Hi,
I've been waiting until Jim completed his consultation with the IEEE.
We are discussing what changes to make in VHDL, the value they will
have, who needs them, and whether it is likely they will have the
support required to be successful. We have to be careful not to talk
about vendor products and whether any particular vendors will or won't
do something, because anti-trust rules require us to do so.
Nevertheless, It is always appropriate to consider the value proposition
of changes to the language. It is not merely an academic question of
what would make a better language. These standards support the work
our industry does. In that respect, understanding trends relevant to HDL
design and verification methodology matter. They are a part of what
supports our decision making. Whether this survey itself helps or not
is part of the discussion we were having.
What would this group like to do to follow up on or continue the
discussion of the survey? I can suggest that we might restart by
arranging a presentation of the survey at one of our meetings. Some of
the questions and comments posed before we stopped the conversation
would probably get answered. The links provided to the survey on the
reflector were problematic because there was some product mentioned.
This would also be a way give everyone a fair look at the same data and
chance to talk it over together. The resulting presentation material
could be made available to the WG.
Comments?
Regards, John
