[vhdl-200x] Important: call for VASG vote on draft LRM and ISAC issues

From: Peter Ashenden <peter_at_.....>
Date: Fri Apr 11 2008 - 01:16:04 PDT
Dear colleagues,

This is a call for approval votes from IEEE P1076 WG members on two things:
a number of ISAC recommendations, and a revision of the standard to be
forwarded for IEEE sponsor ballot.

First, the ISAC has analyzed the issues listed below and made
recommendations for interpretation of the IEEE 1076-2002 standard and for
the revised LRM.
Please note that, in some cases, a recommendation may be to reject a
request. In that case, a vote to approve the recommendation means rejecting
the request, whereas a negative vote means reconsidering the request. Please
take care with the logical sense of your vote in such cases. Details of the
items to be approved are below.

Second, the revised draft LRM, P1076-2008/D4.2, incorporates major revisions
developed by the VHDL-200x effort of the VASG and the Accellera VHDL-TC.
This draft also incorporates minor changes from the ISAC recommendations
being voted on. Your approval vote for D4.2 will be conditional upon
approval of the ISAC recommendations. Should any ISAC recommendation not be
approved, D4.2 will need to be reviewed.

The P1076-2008/D4.2 document is available at

  http://www.eda-stds.org/vasg/P1076-2008/P1076-2008-D4.2.zip

Please contact me by email (mailto:peter@ashenden.com.au) to request the
username/password for access. The zip file contains:

- an annotated PDF with insert/delete markup and footnotes tracing
  the origin of changes
- a clean PDF (this is what we are formally voting on)
- machine-readable files for VHDL packages and VHPI

Only votes of eligible voters will be counted. Eligibility requires
participation in 2 of the last 3 votes plus DASC membership. (See
www.dsac.org if you need to renew.) Votes from ineligible voters will be
recorded for information and for adding to your "last 2 of 3" participation
count. I will acknowledge each vote received and indicate whether it was
counted or not. Please consider forwarding a vote, even an abstain vote if
you do not have time to review the issues in detail, so that your 2-of-3
participation is maintained.

Given the size of the revised LRM, the vote period will be 30 days. Please
forward votes to me by email (eg, by replying to this message) by 5pm
US-PDT, Sunday May 11, 2008.

For each issue and for the draft LRM, would you please vote one of: approve,
negative with comments, negative with no comments, or abstain. You may also
provide informative comments with a vote to approve a recommendation.
Please use the form below. Thank you.

Regards,

Peter Ashenden
P1076 Secretary
