P1076 Minutes from March 5, 2020

Attendees

Jim Lewis, Patrick Lehmann, Peter Flake, Ryan Hinton, Peter LaDow

Meeting Discussion

  • Previous meeting minutes reviewed and approved
  • New proposals are to be put at the end of the Proposals Table on http://www.eda-twiki.org/cgi-bin/view.cgi/P1076/VHDLProposals
  • Discussion of GitLab vs TWiki for proposals
    • Exploration of the Wiki, Boards, and Issues on GitLab need to be done to capture proposals, LCS, etc.
    • History of discussion is a key factor.
    • Proposal discussion need not have public access (can be limited to WG members)
    • Discussion of strategies for standard changes
      • Fast-forward vs git-merge vs squash-merge. Is the entire history of all the edits to the LCS necessary? Or just the final approved LCS?
  • All LCS need to have an "impact statement" written describing the impact the LCS may have on other portions of the standard.
  • LCS Change Workflow has been started. See http://www.eda-twiki.org/cgi-bin/view.cgi/P1076/LanguageChangeWorkFlow
  • LCS works needs to begin ASAP. The deferral of LCS work to the end of the process creates excessive work and floods the WG with review and rework. Proposals need to be turned into LCS's as quickly as possible.
