I agree completely except that, at first sight, $500K/pa looks
unrealistic and seems unnecessarily high. With a 5-year cycle, and two
new efforts every 5 years at $350K, plus a few more in maintentance, I'd
have thought we'd be looking at maybe $150K/year. This translates into
getting the top 3 vendors to contribute about $40K/year, plus some from
the smaller vendors. The benefit to the vendors is that we could then
offer them a channel to put an IEEE name on their own favourite vendor
standard.
