Thank you, Joachim, for organizing these elections as Election Officer, and thanks to the voters for their confidence. At the same time I would also like to thank David Smith, who retired last year as WG Treasurer after serving in this role since 2007. Besides fighting the IEEE financial bureaucracy David has been a technical contributor for over 20 years, and his broad experience has left many traces in the two standards maintained by this WG, IEEE Std 1076.1 and IEEE Std 1076.1.1, as well as in other standards.
Since we also started a new year, I would like to give a brief update of the current status of the ongoing revision.
The work on the mandatory changes, i.e. merging the functionality of the 2008 revision of the base VHDL language into 1076.1, is nearing completion. This includes both the definitional work and the LRM updates. The new projects are on average about 75% done, and we are on schedule to complete the revision on time. Since our PAR expires on 12/31/2017, we have close to two years for the completion, of which we have to allocate a good portion to the administrative tasks, including balloting and submission to RevCom.
I am looking forward to drive the completion of this revision to its end, with the help of several dedicated volunteers. As you can see from the election, the number of active participants is small, and your help will be appreciated.
With this note I am signing off on this reflector, and future communications will only be sent to the new reflector, as previously communicated.
Ernst Christen
Chair, IEEE P1076.1 Working Group
