IEEE P1076.1 Update

All,

As we are nearing the end of 2011 I want to give a brief update on the activities of the P1076.1 Working Group this year.

In March IEEE-SA RevCom approved the revision of IEEE Std 1076.1.1, now known as IEEE Std 1076.1.1-2011 IEEE Standard for VHDL Analog and Mixed-Signal Extensions—Packages for Multiple Energy Domain Support. The standards document has been available for purchase since April.

Also in March IEEE-SA NesCom approved a PAR (Project Authorization Request) for the revision of IEEE Std 1076.1 IEEE Standard VHDL Analog and Mixed-Signal Extensions. The PAR can be found on the twiki site of the WG at http://www.eda-twiki.org/vhdl-ams . The work on this revision is ongoing.

In the fall the Policies and Procedures of the WG were updated and approved by both the WG and our sponsor, the DASC.

On the technical side progress has been made in the subgroups of the WG, each working on one small project related to the current revision. Two of these projects are nearing completion, others have made considerable progress this year but have work left to do, while still others have yet to be started. We continue to have a shortage of contributors, so projects have to be done serially rather than in parallel. If you are a Member of the WG (described in clause 7.2 of the P&Ps) you can review the detailed status of each project at our twiki site.

Since some of the projects depend on a base lined LRM, with 1076.1 extensions inserted at the right place in the base text defining VHDL 1076, getting such a document has now become high priority. A request to fund the current revision with an initial contribution to fund the creation of the base lined LRM has been sent recently to vendors of VHDL-AMS products and organizations promoting its use. We are awaiting their response.

Looking forward, 2012 will start with an election of the Officers of the WG, as the term of the current Officers is expiring. I have asked Joachim Haase to serve as Returning Officer to conduct the elections. Joachim is planning to start the nomination process in early January, followed by the actual election. Technical work will continue in 2012, and I encourage you to become involved and to contribute to the effort.

Please contact me if you have any questions about the IEEE P1076.1 Working Group or its activities. I wish you a happy holiday season and a prosperous new year.

Chair, IEEE P1076.1 Working Group
