All,
As discussed at the Working Group meeting on November 9, the legal issues surrounding the draft PAR for a revision of IEEE Std 1076.1-2007 have recently been resolved. After resolving an additional question that came up at the meeting the draft PAR is now ready for approval by the Working Group. The draft PAR document is attached.
As previously communicated, the next revision of IEEE Std 1076.1 will include the following:
Integration of changes in the base language described by IEEE std 1076-2008. This will introduce new functionality in a number of areas, including IP protection, VHPI, generic packages, subprograms and design units, and more.
Integration of IEEE Std 1076.1.1 into 1076.1
Selected language enhancements, including frequency domain modeling, table-driven modeling, vector-matrix operations, the ability to connect terminals and signals, and more.
The process from here is as follows.
The draft PAR must be approved by the Working Group. This is the purpose of this message. Approval of the draft PAR requires a majority of the Voting Members of the WG.
The draft PAR must be approved by the DASC, our parent organization
The draft PAR must be approved by NesCom, the New Standards Committee of IEEE-SA
The revised standard must be approved by the WG. This approval requires a 75% majority of the Voting Members
A balloting group is formed at IEEE-SA to ballot the revised standard
The balloting group votes on approving the revised standard. A 75% approval rating is required, and all negative votes must be resolved.
If necessary, a recirculation ballot is conducted
The revised standard is submitted to the IEEE-SA RevCom for administrative approval.
To get the process started I am calling for a vote of the WG to approve the draft PAR for a revision of IEEE Std 1076.1. All members of the WG who are also members of the DASC are eligible to vote. Participation in the vote will count for future eligibility to vote as described in section 4.1 of the P&Ps of the WG. The question to vote on is:
Do you approve the attached draft PAR for a revision of IEEE Std 1076.1?
Valid positions for this vote are:
Affirmative
Do not approve (Negative with comments)
Do not approve (Negative without comments)
Abstain
Please direct questions about the draft PAR or the process to the reflector. Return your vote to christen.1858@comcast.net by November 30, 2010.
