Agenda:
0. IEEE patent policy (http://standards.ieee.org/board/pat/pat-slideset.ppt)
Please review these slides prior to the meeting if needed.
1. Discussion/vote on updated version of 3398
2. Discussion of generic interconnect
3. Opens
FM: Fixed the editorial issues identified by SL in version 18. Will send a email to Shalom seeking more feedback.
GV: We should be able to do a email vote for version 18 on mantis 3398 in SV-DC.
SL: Status of generic Interconnect.
SS: We have reached the consensus between AK, GV and SS to avoid the complexities related to mixed-vectors.
GV: We will take out the things that are difficult to explain in the current LRM; e.g. concats with different types. Keep the match between unpacked and packed.
SS: Packed vs. Unpacked would be good to relax
GV: This would need a lot of rework to describe how connections are done.
GV: We are going back to the first/small proposal. If you have a unpacked generic interconnect declaration, you won't be able to connect a packed array to it. We will focus on getting the basics in and put in the straightforward connections first.
SL: Is the problem that language in LRM doesn't exist or are there technical difficulties for such extensions?
GV: SS and I are fully aligned on what needs to done but it is very difficult to express it in the context of the LRM.
SS: I have a concern on allowing interconnect to be packed or unpacked. We will likely end up with two different ways to say the same thing when the packed/unpacked restriction is eventually removed.
FM: We should not be even talking about packed or unpacked for interconnects.
GV: A lot of work will be needed to describe such connections. With the basic proposal, we will have a some useful things.
SS: The interconnects can be declared using packed or unpacked syntax. However, it should not matter.
GV: On 5/31, I posted some basic rules.
SS: Does Cadence and Mentor have agreement on the proposal?
GV: We have moved into taking up only a simplistic proposal. I will write up the first pass by early next week. Will publish it no later than Wednesday 8/17.
SL: Is anyone from Synopsys there? Dave - Do you have any concerns?
DC: No problems with GV proceeding with the first pass.
GV: The non-scalars cause the most issues in interconnects. There is a very small chance of divergence in the short term. We need to discuss some more ambiguous cases and try to simply disallow them for now.
SS: Agree on the approach.
SL: A reference to 696 (parameterized functions) is used in 3398 and that can delay the implementation of 3398 in a draft.
GV: 696 has only minor changes that need to be approved. It is almost done.
SL: We wait for Shalom's feedback before we start the process of email vote on SV-DC after that.
