Issue Passes. AI: Matt update Mantis 2889 as resolved. + Follow-up on Issue 210 Discuss feedback from Dave Gates http://www.eda-twiki.org/sv-bc/hm/10832.html Gord offered use of wrapper modules to add ports as features expand. Dave concerned that number of wrappers could be significant, making library management expensive. Use of wrapper requires changing instance name. The concern from implementers is that adding scopes inside port definitions adds more complexity for name resolution. Peter suggested use of interfaces for this problem. Steven suggested signals could be generated in the interface. Dave will takea look at interfaces as a solution. Dave pointed out that names with generates would look like an array of interfaces or instances. Next step would be to code some examples. AI: Dave Gates will code some examples of use-models related to issue 210 using interfaces + Interface Discussion Peter Flake sent a proposal for stand-alone modports http://www.eda-twiki.org/sv-bc/hm/10833.html Mark Hartoog sent his input on the discussion http://www.eda-twiki.org/sv-bc/hm/10834.html Steven sent a response using nested interfaces http://www.eda-twiki.org/sv-bc/hm/10837.html Gord suggests Steven's proposal close to typed modports. Have same limits of what can be visible through modport. Today virtual interfaces gives access to variables/parameters. Nested interfaces do not give access to task/functions in parent interface. Mark would like to see virtual interfaces bound at parse time. Gord suggests the language feature most applicable to this problem is parameterized classes. These are elaborated when a data type is defined. Is there something similar for interfaces? Next step is to follow-up with users on impact of this type of restriction: "Any interface referenced in a virtual interface acts like a package reference. That is, the interface must be parsed prior to that reference." Question of circular dependency between interface definition and package import may eliminate this as a solution. Stand alone modports also solve this but require code changes that would break all existing designs. AI: Check with users regarding viability of rule that virtual interface declarations require that the referenced interface be previously parsed. 11:02AM Steven moves to adjourn.
