this is true about statements, but in the case of properties, these are not statements, they are in fact expressions. Since there is already this difference, wouldn't uniformity in properties be preferable?

Please note that not all statements in SV end in a semicolon. Look at the statement_item BNF. Some do, some don't. I think it would be preferable, if possible, to have property syntax consistent with that elsewhere in the language. For example, if case-endcase does not end in a semicolon in procedural code, then it should not need to in properties.
