Subject: messages and message loggers

Hi,

This is regarding Mantis issue 4377 - new message configuration infrastructure.

I propose to completely remove the old - logger based - message configuration API from the standard (including the removal of "message logger" concept itself), and add the new - unit based - instead.
I see several reasons to do so, rather than having both old and new API:

- The new API provides the same functionality, and even more.

- The new API is much simpler and easier to define. The old one has several complicated aspects, and I doubt if they are all precisely defined in the current version of the standard.

- Having both APIs in the standard would make it even more complicated, without need.

o Especially along with the addition of structured messages material (another Mantis issue - 4312).

- Cadence might eventually stop supporting the old API - it is currently under deprecation process in Specman.

How does this sound?

Thanks,
Yuri.
