Joachim takes the notes.

Approval for agenda

Agenda unanimously approved.

Minutes from last meeting

Ernst agreed to approve the Minutes of the February 07, 2011 meeting.

Discussion concerning action items on multidimensional interpolation

Ernst has prepared material on multidimensional interpolation/extrapolation (txt). It describes the approach to handle the problem by a recursive call of functions. Data organization needs further investigation.

Joachim has prepared a test implementation v0.3 that includes multi-dimensional interpolation/extrapolation functionalty (pdf, zip).

Discussion on further activities in phase 3 (definition of VHDL(-AMS) function headers) and phase 4 (reference implementation)

Joachim: Phase 2 of the TDM activities is finished and the next steps can be started.

Joachim: Default interpolation and extrapolation methods should be part of the declaration of the interface of the function INTERPOLATION_ND. However, the associated arrays are unconstrained. At the moment, this is a problem.

Ernst: It should be checked whether VHDL 2008 allows to use the range of one argument of a function to declare the range of another one. In the case of generics this is possible.

Ernst: In a first step, given data for interpolation should be prepared for efficient interpolation and saved using special data types. There is always a trade-off between storage requirements and running time.

Joachim: The test implementation should at least define the algorithmic details. It should not fix the structures of the prepared data.

Ernst: Implementation dependent type declaration should be possible - similar to the declaration of the types INTEGER and REAL in the STANDARD package.

Ernst: Data type declaration for the test implementation needs further investigations.

Ernst: Characteristics (passivity, stability, and causality) of values and results in the one-dimensional complex-valued case should not be included in the interpolation functions.

Joachim: Rearrangement of given data can be done by the determination of the pp-forms in the one-dimensional case and re-sorting of data in the multi-dimensional case.

Next meeting

The next web meeting is planned on April 4, 2011 at 8am PST or 17:00 CEST.

AOB

None.

Adjourn

Joachim adjourns the meeting at 18:00 CET.

Action items

Ernst:

  • Check the possibilities to initialize unconstrained arrays in VHDL 2008.
  • Check the possibilities for data organization in the multidimensional case.

Joachim:

  • Proposal regarding the declaration of functions that prepare data for an efficient interpolation (pp-forms, re-sorting) and the associated interpolation functions.
